Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale announces the winners of its 2017 Gail Newby Concerto Competition:

First Place winners will perform with the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra at its March 25 performance "The Virtuoso Concert." Rufus Bordal will perform Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, first movement. William Suh will perform Sergei Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante, second movement. Each first place winner will receive a $500 scholarship at the concert. Next weekend is AVSOMC's Bach Competition. Up to four winners will be selected to perform in a 7 p.m. prelude recital preceding AVSO's March 25 performance.

MTAC ANTELOPE VALLEY BRANCH

1st Place

All first place winners (Isabella Wu, Jessica Wong, Mizuki Shelly Horiguchi, Allison Park, and Abigail J. Kang) will perform in a gala recital preceding the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra concert on March 25 at the Antelope Valley College Performing Arts Theatre. At the performance, the MTAC branch winner will be awarded a $100 scholarship. The other four winners each will be awarded a $300 scholarship. Tickets for the performance may be purchased at tickets.avc.edu.

Open to pianists and instrumentalists age 18 and under (two age groups)
Winners perform music of J.S. Bach as a prelude to an AVSO concert

Gail Newby Concerto Competition
